We all need a day of rest. It is important for us to do this to allow
our bodies to recover in order to prepare for the next week. Not only that, this is also a direct order
from God.
The Hebrews had to do twice the work on
the day before the Sabbath so they would do no work on the day of rest. For example, if they normally baked a loaf of
bread a day, they would need to bake two loaves on that day. While, there are no strict consequesces today
for doing work on the Sabbath, it is a good idea to do this. I commute an hour each day to my job and
sometimes I work overtime. I try to keep
my house cleaned each day and find it is hard to do at times. Many times I have put off house cleaning
until my days off. However, I do not
want to spend the time off by cleaning.
There are so many other things that I would rather be doing such as
sewing and decorating projects. Therefore,
during my work week I use a point system during my work week. I decide if I do 10 points of work each day,
then on my days off I do not need to do much.
This is how my point system works.
If I do a load of dishes or laundry, they are counted as one point
each. If I clean a room, it is counted
as one to three points-depending on what needs to be done in that room. For example, if one room needs a quick
cleaning then that is one point. Since
my bathroom is small, there is not much work to do in there. However, my kitchen is very unorganized
because that room gets the most traffic and gets cluttered. Therefore, that task is always a three point
room. When, I know that I am going to
work overtime, I know that I won’t have the time to clean. Therefore, I always do a little extra work so
that I can stay on top of things.
I have a new Year’s Resolution that I
set each year. It is to write 500 words
a day. This includes writing articles
for my online sites, my fiction writing and Bible Study. With my work schedule, it is difficult to log
on each day. Therefore, on one day, I
might not get a chance to write anything but on another day, I am able to write
more than one thousand words. As long as
I can average 500 words a day, I will be on the way to my goal. Not only that, I will be able to have a day
of rest from my writing.
